Texas Woman Gives Birth in Locked Whataburger Stall, Attempts To Flush Baby Down the Toilet

A Texas woman who allegedly gave birth in a Whataburger stall has been arrested after attempting to flush the baby down the toilet.

Mallori Patrice Strait, a 33-year-old woman from San Antonio, allegedly entered a Converse Whataburger restaurant in the 7700 block of FM 78 around noon on December 19 and lingered in the restaurant until about 2 a.m. the following morning. Strait then went into a bathroom stall, where she remained for hours.

The Whataburger manager later looked inside the stall and said she saw "a portion" of a baby. Investigators later confirmed it to be a 28- to 30-week-old fetus, per Express News.

Newborn Flushed Down the Toilet

Police records noted that the manager would continually check on Strait after she went inside a locked bathroom stall. The manager also noted that the 33-year-old would constantly make noise inside the stall. The manager later told Strait she had to leave the restaurant and called 911 out of concern for her. She told police she saw a "portion" of a newborn baby when she peeked inside the stall.

Authorities immediately arrested Strait, who refused to answer the questions of deputies and only told emergency medical personnel that she was "not selfish," My San Antonio reported.

Firefighters who were called to the scene had to "physically grab" the baby whose body was trapped inside the U-drain. The baby was still inside its amniotic sack when it was recovered. Officials brought the fetus to a nearby hospital, where it was pronounced dead.

A medical examiner later confirmed that the child---who was determined a girl---had a misshapen head. The examiner noted that the injuries were "consistent" with being forced into the drain and being suctioned from flushing the toilet.

What Will Happen to Strait?

Strait was also brought to a downtown hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead. The exact cause and manner of death are still being determined by the medical examiner.

Strait is currently facing a charge of abuse of a corpse, according to KSAT, citing the affidavit. The charges could be upgraded depending on the results of the autopsy.
