Two teenage girls in Pakistan have been arrested after they doused their father in petrol and burned him alive in revenge for him repeatedly assaulting them.
The father, who was not publicly identified by authorities, was attacked by the girls on January 1. However, he survived and remained in the hospital with severe injuries until he died on January 7.
The girls were stepsisters. The father had been raping one of the children for a year and attempted to sexually assault the younger sister twice. Both admitted to taking petrol from their father's bike and dousing him in it before setting him on fire. They also used ropes to tie their father up prior to the burning. Reports of the girl's ages vary. Some claim they are 12, and others claim they are 15, according to Daily Mail.
A sibling of the girls alerted their father's sister of the burning. She later called emergency services.
What Did the Man's Family Do?
The man had 10 children from three wives. His first wife has, however, died. He lived with his wives and children together in a rental.
It was noted that their mothers knew about the rape but did not know about the girl's plan for revenge. It is unclear if they had ever attempted to report about their daughters' sexual assault. It is also unclear whether the teenage girls would face charges. They are scheduled to appear in court within the next few days.
Sex Crimes in Pakistan
The teenagers' case is the latest in a series of sex crimes in Pakistan. In one highly publicized case in Punjab, a teenage girl went to the police after she was kidnapped at gunpoint and gang-raped. The girl was later dumped near her aunt's home in a deteriorating medical condition.
In mid-August 2024, Pakistani media reported the case of a 28-year-old Belgian tourist who was abducted and repeatedly raped by multiple men over a five-day period in Islamabad. She was discovered in Sector G-6 with her hands bound. She later told police that she had been "thrown out" of a vehicle.
