Sarah Michelle Gellar has officially signed on for NBC's "Cruel Intentions" sequel. As it turns out, the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star will be reprising her original role as Kathryn Merteuil for the TV series.
Gellar will be starring in the follow-up series, which is written by Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, as well as the original "Cruel Intentions" writer and director, Roger Kumble.
Gellar first announced the news on Instagram. Featuring two juxtaposed photos, the "The Crazy Ones" star explains what could seem like tradition for the original "Cruel Intentions" team.
"This picture was taken on the eve of production on the original #cruelintentions. Its me #rogerkumble (director) and #nealmoritz (exec producer) and the other is a picture of us now on the eve of production on the new #cruelintentions," Sarah Michelle Gellar said.
She continued, "That's right "everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way" #kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv) on the new #Crueltv."
According to E! News, the series will surround Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her plan to control her nephew Bash, the son of Annette Hargrove (originally played by Reese Witherspoon) and the late Sebastian Valmont (played by Ryan Phillippe).
It wouldn't be "Cruel Intentions" without a plot twist: married to newly-rich Pascal Barret, Kathryn tries to juggle a full plate as she tries to take over a company, in addition to her own nephew, reports Deadline Hollywood.
It is still unknown if Witherspoon, Selma Blair or Joshua Jackson will make any appearances for the "Cruel Intentions" TV series, but surely fans would love to see that. No air date has yet been announced.
