Robin Roberts celebrated the one year anniversary of her successful bone marrow transplant on "Good Morning America", according to the Huffington Post.
"I'm just so excited in sharing it with everyone who is celebrating, as well," she said, jumping up and down in her chair. The anchor and her "GMA" co-hosts celebrated Roberts' one year "birthday" with cake and a phone call from her sister Sally, who provided the bone marrow transplant.
Roberts teared up as Sally thanked the network and all the fans who supported her sister throughout the past year. She was diagnosed with MDS, a rare blood and bone marrow disorder and received a bone marrow transplant last year. She kept viewers updated on her progress throughout her recovery and returned to "GMA" in February.
"Unlike my first, first birthday - which of course I don't remember - this time around I know I will never forget all the people who have reached out to me over the past year. Your words of encouragement, smiling faces, and prayers have carried me through the toughest times. I know that I would not have made it to this milestone without you," she continued.
Roberts has made strides since the days before the transplant. On Friday, Roberts tweeted: "Happy Friday/Birthday @GMA!! 1 year ago today my sister @SallyAnnWWL, gave me the best gift ever... the gift of life. Blessings to all... Xo"
Her colleagues at ABC News helped her celebrate on-air and off the air on Friday. ABC News president Ben Sherwood tweeted: "Every morning we wish happy @ABC birthday to our wonderful colleagues - and today is incredibly special."
Sherwood continued: "Everyone at @ABC wishes our colleague @RobinRoberts a joyful birthday- 1st anniversary of her life-saving bone marrow transplant. #TeamRobin."
