Need A Nanny? Here Are 5 Important Qualities Of A Great Babysitter

Many parents are very busy -- leaving them no other option but to get someone to help them take care of their kids. However, poor caregivers can cause different potential dangers to the health, safety and security of your kids.

It is therefore very important that parents know the qualities of a great babysitter. CARE and WAHM shared some of the things to look for in a babysitter.

1. Has great recommendations from trusted sources

Get a babysitter based on the recommendations of your family and friends. Having great recommendations usually means having plenty of experience or success in caring for kids. "Would you want to hire an employee who did not have good quality references, and who was not recommended by past employers?" WAHM asked.

2. Must know how to respect and follow your rules

Being a rebellious teen who loves breaking rules is a no-no for any babysitter. You need someone who can respect and follow your rules no matter what. Just make sure to properly communicate the dos and don'ts of babysitting your kids.

3. Must be flexible and versatile

"Caregivers must be willing and able to adapt to changes in daily routines and circumstances," CARE advises. "When you're caring for someone, you have to be able to adjust to their needs."

4. Must have calm and patient temperament

If you do not want anyone verbally or physically hurting your kids when they misbehave, find somebody with a calm and gentle demeanor. Being patient is one of the most important traits a caregiver needs to have in order to prevent any form of child abuse.

5. Has first aid training

Babysitters with first aid training should be prioritized especially for kids with health conditions. You never know when an accident or any untoward health incident will happen while you are away.

Remember: choosing a babysitter should not be taken lightly. Make sure that the one you are hiring has most, if not all, of the important qualities of a great babysitter.
