Two-year-old Aaliyah Garrett was taught by her mom to dial 911 for an emergency. Little did mommy know that she would dial 911 so a cop can help her put her pants on.
The fashion emergency call came on Wednesday, as reported by Washington Post. And although the dispatcher of Greenville County, 911, only heard "Hello" and the toddler's incoherent words at the other end of the line, he decided to send somebody.
Good thing though that Deputy Martha Lohnes was in the area and headed for the toddler's home to investigate. Aaliyah's grandfather, who had no inkling of what's going on, readily explained that there was no emergency whatsoever.
While the bewildered grandfather was explaining, the two-year-old hopped up behind him, half-dressed, waving vigorously to Deputy Lohnes, and still trying to put her pants on.
Since Lohnes has two younger sisters, she immediately grasped what the emergency was all about. So she sat down Aaliyah on the stairs and helped her put her pants on. Next, she also helped the toddler tie her shoelaces.
Yahoo News said that according to Deputy Lohnes, it is not uncommon for children to dial 911. She said, "We normally sit them down and say, 'Hey, this is for emergencies only,' but she was only 2." She even added, "I was impressed that she could dial at all."
The mother, Pebbles Ryan, was out working when the fashion emergency call happened. She explained that indeed she taught the two-year-old to dial 911 but she did not expect that her daughter would consider her fashion trouble of not being able to put her pants on as an emergency.
Deputy Lohnes, who responded to the girl's 911 call just to put her pants on, said it made her day. She said, "My heart went out to Aaliyah, because not too long ago, I was the little girl dialing 911 just so I could see police officers show up at my house." She also added that she was "so enamored by police officers as a kid."
