Twenty years after the death of Princess Diana, palace insiders now claim that Queen Elizabeth II had a change of heart over the Princess of Wales. The once well-known haughty attitude of the queen towards Diana was now replaced with a "certain gratitude." Does this spell an end to the well-known animosity of Her Majesty towards her late daughter-in-law?
According to an IB Times report, a member of the inner circle of the queen said that the 90-year-old monarch now looks back fondly at the late Princess of Wales. The undisclosed close friend said that while they were having tea at the Windsor Castle, the queen smiled when the subjects of her grandchildren Princes William and Harry Came Up. The source said that the queen opined that she has a lot to thank Diana for.
Many people can still remember how the disdain of Queen Elizabeth II towards Princess Diana became public knowledge. Reports have it that the queen could not stand the late Princess. One of the former police bodyguards of Princess Diana, Inspector Ken Wharfe, said that the queen was not exactly supportive of the way that Diana worked with AIDS victims, and her passion towards tackling issues that many people try to evade in public. Although Diana was hailed as the "People's Princess," such used not to go well with Queen Elizabeth II.
According to a report by Inquisitr, Wharfe also mentioned that, "The Princess wasn't put off by the Queen's reaction. She told me she'd told Her Majesty that it was 'important work.'" He added further, "Believe me, Diana wasn't the airhead she was sometimes portrayed as. She knew what she was talking about when it came to AIDS."
Remembering the time that Princess Diana was still alive, the queen's friend said of her, "She felt the pretty girl was a misfit who didn't quite contribute to the things they did and what they wanted her to do in the family."
Today, this concept has entirely changed as Queen Elizabeth II now recognizes the contribution of her late daughter-in-law to the family. She sees the shadow of the Princess of Wales in Prince William and Prince Harry, in the way they deal with ordinary people, and how the two princes exude humanity and compassion.
