There is a new application on Android-operated smartphones where consumers can raise a complaint on a certain food. The app can locate the consumer's geographical location after sending a witnessed food incident with pictures.
The Food Safety and Standards of India (FFSAI), a food safety regulator has launched an app where consumers may raise their concerns regarding the quality of a packaged food. This also goes for the foods that are being served in ready-to-eat outlets, as reported by DNA India.
"FSSAI App will allow consumers to raise their food safety-related concerns. Whether it is a Packaged Food or a Food Service Establishment, now consumers are empowered to know about the food business operators and get informed about the food safety information," the description said.
Aside from locating the consumer's geographical location after a food incident has been raised, the app also allows it users to check the parameters where the food safety has been compromised for both packaged food and ready-to-eat served foods.
The consumers have the option to rate the overall hygiene of the food establishment. The consumers are also allowed to enter the FSSAI issued license/registration number to see the business owner's adherence to food safety requirements.
According to Asian Age, J.P. Nadda, the Union health minister who launched the "safety app," said in a newspaper that the app is an "intiative to bring the in economic mainstream the unorganized sector of food vendors by providing them official recognition, dignity and skills. This would benefit the street food vendors to establish their brand enhance their income while also benefiting the consumers by promotion of hygiene and quality of the food served by the street food vendors. This is a true reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'sab ka sath sab ka vikas.'"
Any raised concern will be routed to a food safety officer for necessary action.
