Drinking cups of coffee can be most beneficial between 9:30 to 11:30 in the morning when the body is most receptive to its effects, according to the Daily Mail.
Experts argued that the only way to get the maximum benefits of caffeine is to drink it a few hours after waking up. Steven Miller, a neuroscientist from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Maryland said that "it is best to drink coffee when the body's levels of the hormone cortisol are low because caffeine interacts with the hormone." He confirmed that the body's levels of hormone are typically high just after a person wakes up but start to fall just a few hours thereafter. It is therefore during this drop in cortisol levels that the body gets the most benefit from drinking cups of coffee.
"If we are drinking caffeine at a time when your cortisol concentration in the blood is at its peak, you probably should not be drinking it. This is because cortisol production is strongly related to your level of alertness and cortisol peaks for your 24 hour rhythm between 8 and 9am on average. One of the key principles of pharmacology is use a drug when it is needed. Otherwise, we can develop tolerance to a drug administered at the same dose," he said.
Miller also found that people who drank coffee immediately upon waking up normally crave for more cups later on in the day. Moreover, their serving for each cup requires a stronger taste time after time. Cortisol is responsible for controlling the body clock and causes people to feel wide awake, according to Telegraph.
