Royal Mission: Prince Harry Describes His Restrained First Tour In Afghanistan That Changes His Perspective In Life; His Second Invictus Games Tournament Kicks Off In May

The Captain of Wales, Prince Harry, was inspired to commit himself to helping the wounded veterans when he saw the injured soldiers while he was sharing the flight with them. This was the time when the Army decided to pull him out of Afghanistan in 2008.

This leads him to his mission that supports the wounded members of the military and veteran in their recovery. Prince Harry established the Invictus-Games, an international Paralympic-style multisport event that supports the wounded or sick armed service personnel and veterans in 2014. The word "Invictus" comes from the Latin word which means "Unconquered, Undefeated." This event was inspired by the same event that was held in the US which was called the Warrior Games.

According to Telegraph, Prince Harry's Invictus Games tournament will take place in Florida in May. The named best front-seat pilot explained the reasons why he was so passionate about helping the injured service personnel in his interview with the ABC Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts.

"I've been extracted after 10 weeks of my first tour in Afghanistan. I'd done everything I could to get out there. After 10 weeks, I got extracted," Prince Harry said.

"I was broken. I didn't know what was going to happen to them (his soldiers) and then suddenly I find myself on a plane that's delayed because a Danish soldier's coffin was being put onto the plane," Prince Harry added.

While Prince Harry was sitting on the plane he also saw three of their lads that were wrapped in plastic with missing limbs. He was struck by what he saw. He also witnessed an injured soldier wherein a shrapnel was removed from his head and that he was in the coma. He said that people didn't see those things.

"That's how it all started for me. There's a reason why I've been in the Army and I would never have left the Army and not done this role," Prince Harry said.

"These people are role models and they need to be. It needs to be celebrated more amongst society," the empathetic Prince Harry said.

ABC7 NY reports that the second Invictus Games will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida on May 8 to 12. The wounded service personnel from around the world will compete in various sports. These include wheelchair basketball, swimming, cycling and rugby to sitting volleyball.
