The Bump shared some of the most important vaccinations for babies, when babies should get them and what these vaccinations are for. Proper immunization can make your baby cry for a short time but can also protect his or her health for a long time.
1. Hepatitis B Vaccine
One of the most important vaccinations for babies is the Hepatitis B vaccine. Hepatitis B can cause liver failure and cancer. Babies should get the first dose of Hepatitis B vaccine before being discharged from the hospital after childbirth while the second dose between one to two-months-old.
2. Rotavirus Vaccine
Rotavirus can cause diarrhea and vomiting in infants and children which can lead to dehydration. Babies who are two to four-months-old need to get two to three doses and another dose might be needed at six-months-old.
3. Diphtheria and Tetanus Toxoids and Acellular Pertussis Vaccine
Tetanus causes pain and tightening of the muscles in the jaw while pertussis causes whooping coughs. Babies should get this vaccination at two months, four months, six months, between 15 to 18-months old and last one at four to six-years-old.
4. Haemophilus Influenzae Type B Conjugate Vaccine
"Kids with Hib may suffer permanent brain damage or have serious complications, like pneumonia," The Bump Shares. Babies should get this vaccine at two months, four months and six-months-old, and another shot between 12 to 15-months-old.
5. Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine
This is one of the most important vaccinations for babies because Pneumococcal Conjugate can lead to serious health conditions such as ear infections, lung infection, blood infection and meningitis, according to CDC. Babies should be given this vaccine at two months, four months and six-months-old. They will also need a booster shot between 12 to 15-months-old.
