Windows 10 Smartphones 2016 News & Update: No Upgrades For Some Devices; Which Ones Are Affected? How To Get Upgrade?

Windows 10 smartphone updates have been rolling out beginning Friday, March 18, which should replace Windows 8.1 powered smartphones. However, some devices are not going to be eligible, thus, further delaying the upgrade of its operating system.

The following smartphones will be able to benefit from the Windows 10 upgrade, as advised by Microsoft in a blog post.

- Lumia 1520
- Lumia 930
- Lumia 830
- Lumia 730
- Lumia 735
- Lumia 640
- Lumia 640XL
- Lumia 635 1GB
- Lumia 636 1GB
- Lumia 638 1GB
- Lumia 540
- Lumia 535
- Lumia 532
- Lumia 435
- Lumia 430

The above devices have a few things in common: they have the 8.1 Denim system and the system capacity is over 1 GB RAM, per Inquisitr. However, the availability of the upgrade will also "vary by device manufacturer, device model, country or region, mobile operator or service provider, hardware limitations, and other factors," per Microsoft.

To get the upgrade, you should download the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor app at the Windows Store. It should fix features like the ad-blocker and improve the Edge internet browser.

Devices that are not found on the list will unfortunately not be able to switch to Windows 10 as there is no more updates scheduled for Windows 10 smartphones in the future, per The Verge. Microsoft is also not offering updated support for devices like the Lumia Icon and Blu's Win JR LTE, and an owner of this omitted device posted his gripes online especially after Microsoft previously promised it will be providing update for all smartphone units.

"This phone is less than one year old, launched AFTER the Windows 10 announcement, was sold as upgradeable to Windows 10," said one user on Reddit. "It is now been pushed under the rug by Microsoft - despite multiple marketing materials saying the phone is made for Windows 10."

Windows 10 was launched in July 2015 and the upgrade on computer devices are going to stay free until July 2016.
