Much speculation has been made regarding the events and details in the current “Star Wars” universe, and for the upcoming “Episode VIII,” it's not any different.

Most fans are probably curious as to whether Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker's sister and the general of the new rebellion against the First Order, might have received Force training and is able to fight using the powers of the Force, reports Movie Pilot. Apparently, one of the reasons for this is because of the time that elapsed between Episode VI and VII, as well as her son Kylo Ren's Force capacities.
“It's not clear as to how the First Order and the Knights of Ren took the dominating place in the Star Wars universe, but their rise to power could have pushed Leia Organa back into the fight against them which would be the driving force for her to learn to use the Force and become a Jedi,” notes MP.
It is speculated that Leia likely received some Force training or at least encouragement to receive training from her brother, before the latter went into exile. It is also thought that Leia could be more than just a rebellion general – it is said that if she did learn the ways of the Force, she could have been a powerful Force-wielding soldier who can lead the rebellion into victory against many adversaries.
Should the rumor be true, fans will see it in the upcoming sequels.
Meanwhile, another rumor comes from Latino Review who claims that Laura Dern's character in the upcoming sequel is a Resistance Officer in command of a ship to whom Poe Dameron and a group of Resistance fighters come to after a fight.
The LR report also stated that Poe and Dern's character get into an exchange of words, and into a point where Poe points a blaster towards Dern's character.
These are only rumors, so it's best to take everything with a grain of salt.
“Star Wars Episode VIII” is expected to be out late in 2017.
