"Girl Meets World" fans recently raised an online petition on Change.org to move the series from Disney Channel to Freeform. According to the petition, the show is about to tackle heavier and more mature subjects, as Maya (Sabrina Carpenter), Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and Lucas (Peyton Mayer) will be entering high school.
The "Girl Meets World" petition also raises the notion that since Disney caters to children, this would limit the show's full potential to address teenage issues. Fans also noted that no show lived for more than four seasons on Disney, which makes perfect sense to move the series to Freeform.
The petition has already received over 3,000 signatures as of writing. It, however, remains to be seen whether "Girl Meets World" will move to another network or it will stay on Disney Channel.
In an earlier interview with showrunner Michael Jacobs with TheWrap, the series creator revealed that "Girl Meets World" Season 3 will be tackling heavier subjects that come up in high school. However, he admitted that the show's audience will still be considered in choosing the topics for the upcoming season.
"We're on Disney Channel. As long as this show runs on Disney Channel, we want to honor the people who invited us to play at their house," Jacobs said. "We will tackle heavier subjects, and we will explore them, but we will also honor the fact that our demographic starts at 6 years old."
