"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 is currently under fire after killing off the show's last two LGBT characters, Mary Louise and Nora. Fans slammed the show and expressed their disappointment on social media using the hashtag "#BuryYourGays." Will The CW series respond to criticisms by exploring more on Bonnie's sexuality?
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 may eventually see Bonnie become a bisexual character if the CW series decides to respond to the recent backlash in that way. Zap2It explores on the possibility that Bonnie's sexuality may finally come into full swing, as many fans and viewers of the show have been debating on her true sexuality on the show.
In "TVD" Season 7, Bonnie (Kat Graham) seemed to share more than just friendship with Nora (Scarlett Byrne), who was one of the show's first lesbian characters. However, the chances of seeing this "Bonora" romance zeroed in when the show killed Nora and Mary Louise.
Graham also expressed her thoughts on her character's true sexuality in earlier interviews.
"I've pitched female witches. I've pitched that. I've pitched Bonnie having some discoveries sexually about herself. I've pitched everything," Graham said.
Exploring Bonnie's sexuality in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 may put a stop to the recent backlash on US TV shows for killing off LGBT characters, especially because Bonnie is one of the show's main characters. Mirror reports that many fans were disappointed (and angered) when the show killed off lovers Mary Louise and Nora just weeks after another LGBT character, Lexa, was killed in "The 100."
The publication notes that six lesbian characters were killed off since February, with four of those coming from the CW. The hashtags, "#BuryYourGays" and "#LGBTFansDeserveBetter" became trending topics on Twitter.
According to the publication, the "Bury Your Gays" movement started when fans noticed that LGBT characters in US TV shows did not seem to have a happy ending as opposed to their straight counterparts.
