Late last week, Drew Barrymore and her husband, Will Kopelman, announced that they have decided to get a divorce after almost four years together. Sources have claimed that discussions regarding the family's residence have put a wedge between the couple's relationship.
Drew Barrymore & Will Kopelman's Divorce
According to Entertainment Tonight, discussions about getting a divorce had been ongoing since October of last year, as per a source. But it wasn't until early April when the two finally announced the news.
Not even a day after they announced their decision, Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman released an official statement about the matter. "Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family," the now estranged couple told People exclusively.
"Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on," the statement continued. "Our children are our universe, and we look forward to living the rest of our lives with them as the first priority."
Tensions Rise
Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman have been living in New York City's affluent Upper East Side with their two children, 3-year-old Olive and 1-year-old Frankie. According to People, insiders said that the "tension over where to live" was one of the factors that led to the split.
When Barrymore and Kopelman were still living together, the couple purchased their Upper East Side home, which was listed for $8.3 million, as per Pursuitist. They also had a home in Los Angeles, which was previously featured on Architectural Digest.
With all the assets they have on hand, many are left to wonder if the couple will sell the homes or divide it amongst themselves. As the divorce battle ensues, Barrymore and Kopelman are still ensuring that decisions be made with their two daughters in mind.
In fact, People reports that the family will most probably remain in New York City. As they work out living arrangements for the girls, Barrymore and Kopelman seem like staying in the city would be best, especially for Olive, who will begin preschool soon.
