Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders' Democratic presidential race rival, caused a commotion among pro-life and pro-choice parties over her choice of words. Hillary Clinton had been making a statement NBC's "Meet the Press" when she used the term unborn person while explaining the lack of constitutional rights of fetuses.
According to The Washington Times, Hillary Clinton made both pro-life and pro-choice parties unhappy. The Democratic front-runner raised more than a few flags when Hillary Clinton referred to the fetus as an unborn person or an unborn child. Hillary Clinton had been making the clarification over the non-rights of the unborn when she made the controversial choice of words.
"The unborn person doesn't have constitutional rights," Hillary Clinton stated. "Now that doesn't mean that we don't do everything we possibly can in the vast majority of instances to, you know, help a mother who is carrying a child and wants to make sure that child will be healthy, to have appropriate medical support."
The terms "unborn person" and "unborn child" rang alarm bells for both pro-life and pro-choice parties because Hillary Clinton used words that reportedly humanize a fetus. For pro-choice individuals Hillary Clinton promotes stigma against abortion and a person's right to choice with her statement. The International Planned Parenthood Federation encourages the use of words as pregnancy termination in place of "aborting a baby."
Ascribing humanity to a fetus reportedly landed Hillary Clinton even deeper in hot water because her clarification had been a contradiction in itself. If a fetus is a child or a person then that fetus, as opposed to what Hillary Clinton stated, actually has constitutional rights.
Ironically, Hillary Clinton made the statement in an effort to discredit Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump. The Independent reports that Donald Trump made a recent comment that women should be punished for undergoing abortion, if the means and the method are illegal.
Although Donald Trump had retracted this statement, stating that he is pro-life more than anything else, Hillary Clinton dove in and attempted to point out her opponent's gaffe. Commentary Editor John Podhoretz stated on social media that her statements had actually placed Hillary Clinton on the same level as Donald Trump.
