Tutti Brothers Inc. is recalling approximately 1.77 million pounds of shelf-stable pasta and ground beef products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.
The products are formulated to contain hydrolyzed soy protein and dried soy sauce, known allergens, which are not declared on some labels. These products were produced between May 6 of last year and January 16 of this year and shipped to Kraft Foods distribution centers and various retail stores nationwide. However, the FSIS stressed that no other Velveeta and Kraft products are impacted by this recall.
Company officials who conducted routine quality check discovered the problem and immediately reported it to the FSIS. The company believes the problem occurred when a label supplier inadvertently mixed labels with incorrect ingredient lines with labels containing correct ingredient information. As of late, the FSIS and the company have not received any reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of the recalled products. They advised that anyone who experiences any negative reaction should immediately contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS rountinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain the product is no longer available for purchase by consumers. Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations Center at 1-800-396-5512. Once available, the FSIS will also post the retail distribution list on their website.
