A 16-year-old Delaware female student died after a confrontation ensued in the girl's restroom. Two other students were allegedly involved in her death.
Police reports stated that the 16-year-old sophomore student allegedly got into a confrontation with two other students in the girl's restroom. While there was no reported use of a weapon, the two other girls were said to have caused her death.
According to Yahoo, the victim was at a stall in the girl's restroom at Wilmington Howard High School of Technology. One student, Kayla Wilson, said that the victim was initially fighting a girl. Then out of nowhere other girls got involved. Wilson went on describing that the other girls who joined in the fight jumped at her, which caused the victim to hit her head on the sink.
CNN also reported that based on the statements of Gary Fullman, chief of staff of Wilmington mayor Dennis Williams, an altercation started it all. First, only two people were arguing, when other joined in. It was basically a fight between several individuals and one female high school student.
When the victim was flown to the A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital, she was already in a critical condition. The police are still investigating the event and the exact cause of her death is still being determined.
According to Police Chief Bobby Cummings, the school itself is not known for a history of violence. The death of the 16-year-old therefore came as a shock.
Wilmington City Councilwoman Sherry Dorsey Walker, speaking on behalf of the grieving family whom she had known for quite some time said that the family is simply asking for calm and prayers. There was no hint of retaliation. Walker even described the victim as a "wonderful human being."
