"Iron Man" fans are looking forward to the fourth iteration of the popular series. Unfortunately, "Iron Man 4" is not yet confirmed and according to speculations, it is unlikely to happen. If fans can't think of "Iron Man 4" without Robert Downey Jr. so is "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau.
Jon Favreau Can't Imagine MCU without Robert Downey Jr.
It's almost 10 years since Robert Downey Jr. first donned the suit of "Iron Man." However, according to reports, the actor is done with Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man, the self-proclaimed genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist superhero. There are rumors that he will be passing the baton to someone else for "Iron Man 4," which fans don't support.
If "Iron Man" fans can't think of a new "Iron Man" other than Robert Downey Jr., the "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau shares the same thought. "I can't imagine how they could but that doesn't mean that they can't. I just can't wrap my head around that one," he told Comic Book Movie.
According to Favreau, Robert Downey Jr. is perfect for the role. The actor unified everything that it takes to be "Iron Man," and his talent and ability compliments the Marvel Universe. "I think that his personality is something which helps define it. That being said, nothing would surprise me, but for me it would be a hard pill to swallow and big shoes to fill," he explained.
"Iron Man 4" Is Not Happening Soon Without RDJ
Parent Herald previously reported that "Iron Man" would be gone for a while if Robert Downey Jr. turns down "Iron Man 4." "It's almost impossible to replace Robert, he's the biggest movie star in the world," Joe Russo told Forbes. "I think if and when he is done with the character I think you will find that Iron Man might disappear for a while."
Russo explained that it needs time to reboot the "Iron Man" franchise and give the role to another actor. There should be a generational gap to redefine the character without the spectre of Robert Downey Jr. in it.
