50 & Pregnant: Janet Jackson Follows 'Dammn Baby' Release With IVF Assisted Pregnancy Surprise?

Janet Jackson is joining the more recent trend in motherhood, becoming pregnant close to the "Dammn Baby" singer's 50th birthday. At 50, Janet Jackson may have become pregnant with help from In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

A source revealed that Janet Jackson's pregnancy attempt is successful. This came in the heels of Janet Jackson releasing her new video "Dammn Baby."

Official pregnancy announcement as well as confirmation that Janet Jackson underwent IVF treatment are yet to be made. The "Rhythm Nation" singer gave no indication of undergoing IVF process.

Only that Janet Jackson was told by doctors to rest. Parent reports, however, that an IVF treatment does not necessarily require prolonged bed rest after embryo transfer.

New York Daily News recounts expert opinion that a woman of 50, or almost fifty as Janet Jackson, would more commonly require IVF assistance to become pregnant. A woman undergoing IVF treatment may opt to use previously frozen egg. IVF may also use egg from a younger donor.

A separate Parent Herald story cites an IVF study by the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv. According to the study a woman's eggs are acceptable for the IVF process until she turns 43.

Janet Jackson's pregnancy at (almost) 50 is slowly becoming the new normal, usually with IVF assistance. A report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated 677 successful births in 2013 by women aged 50 and up. The births were mostly, but not entirely, assisted by IVF.

The oldest known birth by an American was by Dr Frieda Birnbaum. She gave birth to twins when she was 60 years old.

Dr Frieda Birnbaum reportedly did not confirm that her pregnancy was assisted by IVF. However, Dr Birnbaum does credit IVF for the fact that number of mothers opting to give birth after 30 is increasing.

Janet Jackson first told the public of her family plan with husband Wissam Al Mana after she cancelled her "Unbreakable" world tour shows. Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana married in 2012 and are both first time parents.
