"NCIS" Season 13 episode 24 titled "Family First" will cap off the entire season of the CBS police procedural along with the last that fans will see of Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly). In a recent interview with New York Post, Weatherly explained the reason behind his departure and how the cast reacted to his decision.
Weatherly shared that he did not decide to leave "NCIS" after Season 13 because he grew tired of playing the same character for 13 years. Instead, he felt that it was time for the character to go.
"You can't be in that No. 2 slot forever," explained Weatherly.
Weatherly also confirmed that the Tony and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) relationship will be given closure during the "NCIS" Season 13 finale. While de Pablo will not be returning to the series, Weatherly said that her presence will still be felt in the final episode.
"Her presence in the final episode, I think that audiences will feel very strongly that she's in the episode in a way that might be a little Shakespearean, but it's real," he added.
While many fans are already saddened about Weatherly's departure in "NCIS" Season 13, Celeb Dirty Laundry reports on his return to CBS in just a couple of months. According to the publication, the actor will be playing a lead role in the new series "Bull."
Weatherly will be playing Dr. Bull, whose character is inspired by Dr. Phil McGraw. His character is described as "the ultimate puppet master who combines psychology, human intuition and high tech data to learn what makes jurors, attorneys, witness and the accused tick."
