The highly anticipated "Preacher" is set to premiere this Sunday, but AMC couldn't help teasing about what to expect in the live-action TV series adaptation of Garth Ennis' comic books. AMC has just released the first four minutes of the "Preacher" pilot, and it already packs an explosive scene. In addition to that, there is an Easter egg in Dominic Cooper's appearance as Jesse Custer, hinting that The Saint of Killers will be in "Preacher!"
"Be Quiet!"
The first episode of AMC's "Preacher" opens with a look in outer space, where planets and asteroids are minding their own business (via Youtube). Suddenly, a fast-moving object is shown speeding through the galaxy, seemingly looking for a nice place to crash. Fans of the "Preacher" comic books already know that this is Genesis, the powerful entity searching for a host body, but where does it end up?
Genesis heads for Africa, where a young preacher has gathered a small audience. The crowd is hushed when a strong wind flies into the small church, and one man even thinks that it is the power of God that has gone into the preacher. However, the preacher then gets out and orders everyone to "be quiet" in an otherworldly voice. After another tense moment, the preacher explodes in front of the crowd.
The "Preacher" Easter Egg
The next scene in "Preacher" Episode 1 shows Dominic Cooper's Jesse Custer having a nightmare about his father right before he has to prepare for mass. Before he leaves his room, there is a lingering shot on a bottle of whiskey which features the silhouette of a gun-slinging figure (via io9). "Preacher" fans immediately picked up on the Easter egg, since Ratwater is where the Saints of Killers is from. But does this mean that the Saints of Killers will make an appearance in AMC's 'Preacher?" Only time will tell.
"Preacher" also stars Ruth Negga as Tulip O'Hare and Joe Gilgun as Cassidy. The new series will premiere on AMC on May 22.
