Disney released the first trailer of "Beauty and the Beast" starring Emma Watson on Monday, May 23, and it instantly became a massive hit. Running for a minute and a half, the teaser has received over 91.8 million views within a day of its release. It broke the record previously held by the teaser for "Star Wars" for "The Force Awakens."
Disney happily announced the feat on the official Facebook page for "Beauty and the Beast." Although the movie won't be in theaters until March 2017, there is no denying that it's highly anticipated by viewers. The film is based off the award-winning 1991 animation, which Disney also produced.
IGN reports that when the teaser for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was released in 2015, it received 88 million views within 24 hours. Next in the ranking is the teaser for "Captain America: Civil War," which earned 61 million views. On the other hand, the teaser for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" was viewed at least 34 million times.
Meanwhile, the first trailer to "Beauty and the Beast" doesn't give away much about the production, but those who have watched the original movie should be familiar with the feel and style of story. In fact, Movie Pilot took time to match the scenes from the new trailer to the animated version of "Beauty and the Beast."
One of the live-action version's producer took notice of it and thanked the site for its efforts. Here's the side-by-side comparison of the scenes from the new live-action "Beauty and the Beast" with Emma Watson versus the cartoon version:
"Beauty and the Beast" also stars Dan Stevens as the Beast, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Sir Ian McKellan as Cogsworth, Luke Evans as Gaston and Josh Gad as LeFou. The live-action is also a musical, but Gad said that fans will be surprised by some of the interesting changes made for this version, per Parent Herald.
