Parenting Facts: Philosopher Claims that Reading Bed Time Stories is Unfairly Disadvantaging Under Privileged Children

Reports revealed the disadvantages of having a loving family, which includes routine bedtime stories. According to a philosopher, having quality time with your children is unfairly disadvantaging other children.

ABC covered a statement of a professor and philosopher at the University of Warwick in England, Adam Swift. Swift highlighted his claims stating that parents who are reading bedtime stories to their children are "unfairly disadvantaging" children who do not have a loving family.

His logic was pointed towards the lack of empathy loving parents have for children who does not have the privilege to be loved and taken care of. Swift cited that parents reading bedtime stories to their child should be empathetic enough to think of other people's children. He mentioned that reading bedtime stories is an unfair disadvantage.

Though Swift may have justified his logic, he was, however, slammed by the National Parents Organization for his claims. They voiced out that children should not be deprived of what swift called unfair disadvantages.

Robert Franklin, the National Board of Directors for National Parents Organization slammed Swift for his broad explanation in terms of his claims. He even questioned Swifts methods in coming up with his goal to provide equality among children. He pointed out Swift's flaws by using food as an example stating that just because some families ae more privileged, it doesn't mean that they shouldn't give their children high-quality food.

"I think the correct analysis of Swift's proposals is that everyone should have shelter," Franklin mentioned, "but no one should have shelter that's better than the worst shelter society has to offer. Does that mean cardboard boxes for everyone? Who knows? And Swift isn't saying."
