Makiko Futaki: The 'Spirited Away' Animator From Studio Ghibli That Passed Away; Was It Related to Being Burnout?

One of the biggest names in Japan's animation industry passed away on May 13. A report published on a Japanese news site wrote Makiko Futaki passed away while undergoing treatment for her illness.

The Studio Ghibli animator, Makiko Futaki passed away at the age of 57. She bought Hayao Miyazaki's literary masterpieces. Makiko Futaki is responsible for bringing "My Neighbor Totoro," "Spirited Away," "Princess Mononoke," and many more.

According to Metro, Studio Ghibli is one of Japan's animating powerhouse. Makiko Futaki is now part of Japan's legacy as her works are widely popular worldwide. Her partnership with Hayao Miyazaki started when she caught his attention for her animation works in "Nausucaa of the Valley of the Wind."

Her works are still being sought after as they perfectly interpreted the characters that Hayao Miyazaki described on his literary works. Makiko Futaki last masterpiece was in 2014 for "When Marine Was There."

Makiko Futaki was still unidentified as her illness was not publicly exposed. Makiko Futaki is one of the few animators that deal with heavy workload, wherein they are exposed to unhealthy lifestyle.

Animators are often caught up with tight deadlines and are highly at risk for being burnt out. Aside from Makiko Futaki, another Japanese legend called it quits with his profession stating that he is already exhausted.

Yutaka Yamamoto, who is known as one of Japan's best anime directors suffers the effects of being burned out. He discussed taking an "indefinite leave" wherein he was still unsure if he will go back to his profession of not as per Kotaku.

Forbes pointed out that being burnout from a career may cause several negative effects on one's daily routine. Being burnout causes the individual to lack motivation in doing a specific task simple because he/she is sick of it.
