Hodor's 'Game Of Thrones' Death Was Supposed To Be More Brutal, But Did It Confirm Bran Stark Theory?

The death of Hodor has undoubtedly been one of the most shocking and depressing scenes in "Game of Thrones" Season 6, or in the HBO show's history. However, the director of the "Game of Thrones" Season 6 episode "The Door" has just revealed that he wanted to give Kristian Nairn's Hodor a more brutal death. But would a bloody Hodor death have the same effect on "Game of Thrones" fans?

"Game Of Thrones" Director Talks About Hodor's Brutal Death

Jack Bender recently spoke to Observer about directing Hodor's death scene in the "Game of Thrones" episode "The Door." The director revealed that he initially had other plans for Hodor's death scene, where the wights would be "ripping his flesh off" and actually "tearing Hodor apart."

However, Jack Bender also shared that he pitched the idea to "Game of Thrones" executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and didn't get the reaction he was looking for. The producers told him that fans might not experience "the loss of Hodor" if the scene was too graphic. Jack Bender further explained that David Benioff and D.B Weiss convinced him that too much gore could "overwhelm the emotion of losing that character." In the end, the director decided to let fans see how Hodor sacrificed himself for Bran Stark's safety, since the new Three-Eyed Raven could be one of the most important characters in "Game of Thrones" Season 6.

Did Hodor Revelation Confirm Bran Stark Theory?

Perhaps the most depressing part of Hodor's death was the fact that Bran Stark has somehow responsible for why he became Hodor in the first place. But does it also mean that Bran Stark may have altered other things in the past? Some fans believe that Bran Stark may have been driven King Aerys Targaryen mad in the past and may have also been responsible for why Ned Stark was not able to save his sister Lyanna Stark on time (via Vox).

Do you think Hodor's death should have been more brutal in the "Game of Thrones" episode "The Door?" Let us know in the comments.
