Ever since it was released on PS3 three years ago, "Grand Theft Auto V" has been deemed as one of the bestselling video games of all time and one of the fast-selling entertainment products in history. It has also been widely recognized by several gaming publications.
Avid "Grand Theft Auto V" fans, however, was recently saddened by the news that its multiplayer mode, "GTA" Online, might be signing off soon. Despite being a major hit for Rockstar Games and Take-Two, the "GTA V" spinoff was reportedly never meant to be permanent.
'Grand Theft Auto V' Online Is Not Permanent
One of the most consistent top performers when it comes to the company's earnings reports, "Grand Theft Auto" Online was responsible for bringing over $500 million from microtransactions. Unfortunately, being a topnotch game was never enough for the "GTA V" multiplayer mode to be "forever" supported by Rockstar Games and Take-Two, GameSpot notes.
"We do expect GTA Online's results to moderate because October will be three years since we released it," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said, as per GameRant. "Not only was it not our intention that GTA Online was permanent, but it's important that it not be permanent. We have to rest the franchise at some point."
Despite the fact that "Grand Theft Auto" Online may sign off someday, gaming publications said it won't be likely soon. The reason? There's still some exciting and interesting content coming in "Grand Theft Auto V" and "GTA" Online through an upcoming update.
'Grand Theft Auto V' 1.18 Update
Speaking of "Grand Theft Auto V" 1.18 update aka the "Finance and Felony" patch, it was reportedly released on Xbox One and PS4 June 7. But according to Rockstar Games, more "massive and feature-rich" expansions were slated to be released into the game.
As for the newest "Grand Theft Auto V" expansion, gamers will be able to build an empire and become a CEO. They can also deal some illegal cargo and contraband, GearNuke reveals.
In addition, gamers can also interrupt rival supply chains or acquire spendthrift vehicles. "Grand Theft Auto V" 1.18 update will also allow players to open new offices, hire an executive assistant and make an aggressive takeover at a time.
"Grand Theft Auto V: Finance and Felony" expansion is currently available for a required 1.3 GB download on PS4. The game's latest update is also available on PC platforms and for more detailed patch notes, check out VG24/7.
