Celebrity Pay Check: How Much Are They Paid to Endorse Soda And Unhealthy Food?

Celebrity endorsers earn a ton of cash for selling a certain product. One of the most common endorsements, however, involves junk food and sugary drinks. So how much are your favorite celebrities earning for a three-minute endorsement deal?

First on the list is no other than Justin Timberlake. According to NPR, Justin Timberlake's McDonald's endorsement deal scored him $6 million. The amount he was paid only covered for the three minute "I'm Lovin' It" jingle.

Aside from Justin Timberlake, another celebrity also scored a huge deal for endorsing a specific soft drink brand. In 2012, it was reported that Beyoncé scored more or less $50 million for her Pepsi endorsement deal which became a big hit.

For 2012's Super Bowl Pepsi advertisement, Beyoncé was joined by her fellow pop stars, Britney Spears and Pink. Their advertisement scored Pepsi major bucks as their sales drastically increased.

A study published in the journal of Pediatrics discussed the effects of celebrity endorsers and the products they endorse. It was mentioned that the food and beverage marketing has an impact on obesity among its consumers.

The study mentioned 65 music celebrities, including Maroon 5, Pitbull, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. The products they endorsed included a vast variety of sugary drinks, chips, fast food including pizza and candies.

"We found the vast majority of food and beverage products were unhealthy," Marie Bragg from the New York University told NPR. "When Dr. Pepper asked Pitbull to endorse, they got 4.6 million advertising impressions, and sales went up 1.7 percent [among Latinos] - despite declining sales in the overall soft drink category."

The study concluded that " food and beverage marketing" plays a vital role in developing childhood obesity. It was also mentioned that using celebrity endorsers greatly affects the food choices of the consumers.
