Anton Yelchin dies at the age of 27, on Sunday morning in Los Angeles at around 1:10am. Yelchin played the younger incarnation of the character Chekov in the "Star Trek" movie series.
The New York Times reported the sad news online. What cut his life short was an accident where his car rolled down the driveway. Yelchin got trapped in his car when it hit a brick mailbox pillar and also slammed the security fence. According to Jenny Houser of L.A Police Department, he was found dead by his friends who came to check on him when he was not able to arrive at their scheduled rehearsal.
Some of his close friends took their mourning to social media.
Yelchin, a bright young kid, was born in 1989 in Leningrad. The place is now known as St. Petersburg in Russia. His parents are Irina Korina and Viktor Yelchin. According to his father it was very difficult where they are from as their family had to suffer political and religious oppression. They feared this environment for their son so they left Russia to come to America.
Luckily Anton Yelchin was given a break when he became a child actor. He had appeared on a few TV shows such as "ER," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The Practice." In 2007, he also appeared as the talkative student who appointment himself in the school's resident therapist, in "Charlie Bartlett." He was with Robert Downey Jr. before that and also played the innocent boy being pawned to a drug war in 2007 for the movie "Alpha Dog."
His greatest breakthrough was when JJ Abrams in 2009 resuscitated "Star Trek." A science fiction franchise. He played the role of Pavel Checkov. The role was originally played by Walter Koenig in the Star Trek TV and movie series.
In 2013, the role was reprised by him once again, in the sequel "Star Trek Into Darkness," he will also be seen in "Start Trek Beyond", the third installment of the movie franchise this coming Summer.
Other recent ventures of Yelchin was voicing Clumsy Smurf in "Smurfs" movie and was a punk rock band member in the film "Green Room"
Anton Yelchin is a great artist and friend. He is survived by his parents.
