The protests on "The Windsors" were not without good reason as Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice were portrayed as radicalized members of the Royal Family. Irreverence spills onto Camilla Parker-Bowles who has been written as pregnant royal at 68 in "The Windsors."
What's On TV reports that "The Windsors" also plays on the public clamor for Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton. Season 1 built up a gold-digging, money-loving Pippa Middleton who was desperate to hook up with Prince Harry.
Prince Harry, on the other hand, was happy to play into the guiles of Pippa Middleton. "The Windsors" finally threw Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton into a tawdry, tabloid-worthy affair, which is expected to figure well into Season 2.
Radio Times points out that despite the highly cheeky tone of "The Windsors," fondness for the Royal Family was noticeable. According to Radio Times, as many as 1.6 million viewers tune in to "The Windsors" per episode.
"We're a nation who appears to enjoy poking fun at the institution of the monarchy almost as much as we enjoy staring at a hospital door waiting for a royal baby to be born and I am delighted to welcome The Windsors back to Channel 4 comedy for a second series," Chanel 4's Phil Clarke said.
Prince Harry (Richard Goulding), Pippa Middleton (Morgana Robinson), Eugenie (Celeste Dring), Beatrice (Ellie White) and Camilla Parker-Bowles (Haydn Gwynne) star in "The Windsors." Chanel 4 is expected to air "The Windsors" Season 2 premiere in 2017.
