'Brooklyn Nine Nine' Season 4 Spoilers: Pimento's Role Explained; Return Confirmed?

"Brooklyn Nine Nine" season 4 spoilers are starting to surface online, and fans are definitely excited to see what the 9-9 squad will be up to in the upcoming run.

As avid viewers can remember, "Brooklyn Nine Nine" season 3 ended with Capt. Holt and Jake Peralta assuming different identities as suburb neighbors Greg and Larry to protect themselves from crime boss, Figgis. "Brooklyn Nine Nine" season 4 will most probably kick-off where it left off and explore the unknown without a Captain and one of its greatest detectives.

When asked about the Witness Protection Program bit, executive producer Dan Goor admitted that they didn't really think of that possibility early on. In fact, it had to take an additional character to help them to land at the "Brooklyn Nine Nine" season 3 ending.

"It was an image that I had in my head from pretty early in the season, and then we sort of talked about it as a room and thought, 'Oh, that'll be cool,' then put up a card on a wall underneath 323, where it said 'Finale,' that read 'Jake and Holt go to witness protection,'" Goor told Yahoo.

"Then we really sort of ignored it until the last half of the season. As we started to think about how we were going to get there... we also knew we wanted to do this Adrian Pimento arc [an undercover cop who returns, then has to fake his death]. I think it was Luke Del Tredici, who's a great writer/producer on the show, who had the pitch that the Adrian Pimento arc leads to an arc that leads to witness protection."

The showrunner then dished on the importance of introducing Pimento's character in the previous run, even hinting that his work in the 9-9 is far from over.

"What we liked about Pimento was, not only did it feel world-expanding and like a fun thing to do towards the end of Season 3 after we'd already done 60 episodes with our guys and gals, it also impacted every other character in the squad," he continued.

As for Peralta and Santiago's romance, Goor explained in a different interview that the pace would most likely change in "Brooklyn Nine Nine" season 4.

"No details are final yet," showrunner Dan Goor recently told Entertainment Weekly, "We haven't really started working on the season yet, but our intention is for the fact that they're in witness protection to really influence their personal relationships with their loved ones and spouses and friends and the squad, and for that to be a real source of comedy."
