‘South Park’ Season 20 Premiere Date, Latest News & Update: New Season For Comedy Central’s Cartoon Series NOT AIRING Soon? Creators Opt Video Game Release Instead

For almost 20 years, Comedy Central's hit adult animated series, "South Park," has continuously attracted a solid fanbase. As a matter of fact, "South Park" will not only be making a television comeback for a brand new season this year, but also with an upcoming video game.

Following the conclusion of "South Park" season 19 in December, avid fans are anticipating for the premiere of the cartoon series' 20th season. But sad to say, "South Park" season 20 is not airing its brand new season just yet.

'South Park' Upcoming Video Game 'The Fractured But Whole' And Release Date

Some fans may be thinking that "South Park" season 20 may not be airing soon because of the series' upcoming video game titled, "The Fractured but Whole." Well, they may be right but the brand new season of the series will premiere ahead of the game's winter release.

During the E3 2016 event in Los Angeles earlier last month, "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone revealed some details regarding the upcoming game, "The Fractured but Whole." According to Movie News Guide, the game, which will be released in December, will follow the events on the 2014 game, "South Park: Stick of Truth."

The Possibility For 'South Park' Movie, Kanye West's Game

Since "South Park: The Stick of Truth" video game in 2014 earned decent reviews and massive sales, Ubisoft created "South Park: The Fractured but Whole" by "genre-phasing into a superhero story." But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Parker and Stone hinted the initial plans for a movie, instead of another video game.

"Ubisoft said, 'Let's make another one.' We were like, 'No, no. We should make a movie.' And we started talking: 'If we did a game, what would it be? We have all this superhero sh-. It could be the next day.' If we did it, what would it be? What would we call it? We came up with the title The Fractured but Whole," Parker said.

Aside from the upcoming "South Park" game, Parker and Stone also spoke about Kanye West's "Only One" video game, which follows the journey of West's late mom to heaven. "South Park" and West seemed to have some sort of a love-and-hate relationship after the show parodied him in the 2009 episode, "Fishsticks," where Kim Kardashian's hubby was called a "gay fish," Pitchfork reports.

'South Park' Season 20 Details And Premiere Date

Meanwhile, "South Park" season 20 will reportedly premiere on Sept. 14, 2016. Comedy Central also confirmed that Stan, Cartman, Kenny, Kyle and the rest of the "South Park" gang will still be part of the series' television comeback this fall, Screen Crush notes.

Other details regarding the anticipated "South Park" season has yet to be revealed. But another Movie News Guide report hints the participation of Caitlyn Jenner and George Clooney, as well as a brand new format for the show.

It is quite a long way to go before the premiere of "South Park" season 20. Fortunately, fans may enjoy watching "South Park" season 19 as it will be available in Blu-ray and DVD later this summer.

As per IGN, "South Park: The Complete Nineteenth Season" will be a timed-exclusive at Best Buy and the Blu-ray set is currently available for pre-order for $29.99. It will be released on Aug. 16, with a wide release set on Sept. 6. For those who missed some "South Park" episodes, you may watch them through this free online stream link here.
