Though it can be said that most children don't have any idea what they want to be when they grow up, a young girl from France is already charting her future. Ten-year-old Eva recently won a grant that is usually given to experts with PhD. It will have her building a robot for the streets of Paris during her summer break.
Eva tried to apply for the Paris Summer Innovation Fellowship without knowing that it was a program geared for professionals with PhD in computers, science and urban design. The project is spearheaded by Five By Five. Needless to say, the foundation was impressed by the 10-year-old's drive, determination and ideas when it received Eva's application letter.
Eva wrote in her application that she plans to build a robot that will put back life and happiness in the streets of Paris, especially after the terror attacks, per CBS News. Eva has long been interested in science and runs a blog where she shares some of her innovations and coding work. One of her most recent designs is a 3-D printed Thymio robot with wheels that can draw on the ground using chalk. Watch Eva demonstrate her robot in the video below:
Five By Five approved Eva's grant application by posting the message on Facebook, through one of its founding partners, Kat Borlongan. She wrote that Eva's application letter inspired her because she showed honesty, bravery, humility and the willingness to learn. So, even if the grant is for professionals, they are willing to let Eva become part of it.
The foundation also promised Eva she will get help from a Thymio specialist in making sure her ideas for Paris' streets become a reality. In fact, it will be Thymio's president who will be working side by side with Eva from July 18 to 29, 2016.
According to Yahoo, 20 PhD fellows have been entered into the program this year, including Eva. Their work will be presented on Sept. 7 in Paris.
