Breakfast As The 'Most Important Meal Of The Day' Is A Myth

Breakfast is usually linked to good health but this has been a myth. A study published in the Journal Circulation concludes that skipping breakfast is just associated and not the cause for any risk of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD).

If you happen to be a skipper of breakfast and you feel guilty about it, it is about time that you get the assurance that you will not die because of not taking your breakfast regularly. Aaron Carroll of the New York Times says that there are no mystical powers in breakfast. He himself is a breakfast skipper and says that "our belief of the power of breakfast is based on misinterpreted research and biased studies".

A lot of daily activities are associated with CHD along with bad eating habits. Among these are watching TV, physical activities, and even sleeping. These three activities alone can contribute to some risk of myocardial infarction and other cardiovascular diseases but like skipping breakfast, these are just matters of association and not causation.

Integrative medicine expert Dr. Terry Shintani, a "Living Treasure of Hawaii", does not emphasize on the importance of breakfast but on proper diet when it comes to reversing diseases. Apparently, diseases do not come just because you have missed breakfast for many years. Shintani says that good health is defined by the foods you eat and not basically by the time you eat. Most of his patients who are suffering from obesity, high blood pressure, heart diseases, or cancer are able to get off medications because of the right kind of foods that he proposes in his Peace Diet program.

You should find peace in your heart as Carroll, Shintani, and other experts would say. No need to feel guilty about missing breakfast. As the cliché says, "you are what you eat", you need to get the right foods any time of the day and get rid of vices. The power is not on your breakfast, it is in your hand. Hold and eat the right foods.
