‘High School Musical 4’ Release Date, News & Update: Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens Return For Disney-Approved Parody Special - When Will It Air?

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are returning to "High School Musical," but in a different and unexpected way. Disney is mounting a parody special featuring the original cast of the musical show and it's nothing fans have seen before.

According to The A.V. Club, Disney has teamed up with the popular YouTube channel Bad Lip Reading for the said "High School Musical" special, which will be airing on Monday, July 11, at 11 a.m. on Disney XD. It will entail clips from the Disney series 10 years ago, where Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens played Troy and Gabriella.

The two characters, along with the rest of the cast, will be featured in familiar scenes from "High School Musical," albeit with a hilarious twist to the soundtrack. With Bad Lip Reading's help, words to the scripts and lyrics to the songs will be altered, to deliver a different version of "High School Musical."

In one scene, Troy actually farts next to Gabriella, per MTV. Watch the teaser below.

Vanity Fair reports that the parody special will only run for half an hour on Disney XD, but it speculates that a bigger break could be on the way for Bad Lip Reading. This partly explains why the partnership between a big studio and a small-time studio has happened.

However, it's unclear what's in store for Disney for agreeing to do the parody, especially one as brazen and hilarious as Bad Lip Reading. Disney isn't particularly known for going this route, but maybe fans will find the mockery refreshing. It is still Disney-approved after all.

At any rate, anticipation for the next installment, "High School Musical 4," is already there and the special could make fans clamor for more. Disney has already initiated an open call last spring to find its new lead stars for "High School Musical 4," but it has yet to make any new announcements or updates.
