The Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev reunion is expected to take place in the series finale of "The Vampire Diaries." Season 8 is believed to be the show's last on air because ratings for the series continue to drop and Somerhalder and Kat Graham have already announced their departure from The CW drama.
While such is the case, many fans on Twitter expressed their desire to see Damon and Elena aka "Delena" in "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff series, "The Originals." Since Elena will only wake up from her sleep once Bonnie dies, there is a possibility that Damon and Elena will both choose to get killed or leave Mystic Falls together.
It also happened that series creator Julie Plec recently told TVLine that "The Originals" Season 4 will feature a long time jump. This could mean that the spinoff series will see what happened to the vampires at Mystic Falls after "TVD" comes to an end in Season 8.
"When they shifted the air date, it actually gave us the freedom, weirdly, to shift the timeline in our favour so that we could have more time pass in 'The Originals' between seasons than 'The Vampire Diaries," said Plec. "It's positive to not have to worry about being side by side."
Plec also told the publication that fans and viewers will understand the theme for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 once they unveil the episode titles for the upcoming season. The series creator also revealed that they are looking into getting Kai return to the show.
