Last season's "Orange Is The New Black" on Netflix left fans devastated for Poussey's unexpected death. Her character was well-liked and was on her way to getting her life back on track after prison. Losing a favorite actor on the show became a huge blow for many viewers who have grown attached to Samira Wiley's portrayal of Poussey.
But not to worry, as there is life after ending a gig. Samira Wiley has just been cast in "The Handmade's Tale," which is set to run on the streaming site, Hulu.
'Orange Is The New Black' Star's Finale Words On Leaving Series
"There was a lot of people who assumed I asked to leave the show, which is the furthest thing from the truth," said Samira Wiley via Mic. She confirmed that she was also shocked upon learning Poussey's fate.
She talked to creator Jenji Kohan about the decision to kill her character and eventually understood why the well-loved Poussey was the target. Her death has to make a strong message. "You want to do this to someone who you feel like has a future so it can hurt that much more," Samira Wiley explained.
After "Orange Is The New Black" and before working on her new, Samira Wiley is expected to guest star in the comedy series "You're The Worst" for its third season. The show returns to FX this coming August.
What Is 'The Handmaid's Tale About?
"The Handmaid's Tale" is a drama told in 10 episodes on Hulu. Based of a novel written by best-selling author Margaret Atwood, it is set in a dystopian world called Gilead, per The Hollywood Reporter.
In Gilead, the women are treated as second-rate citizens, whose main role in society is for repopulation and to service the fundamentalist leaders. "The Handmaid's Tale" centers on the story of Offred, who works in one of the commander's home.
Who Else Stars In 'The Handmaid's Tale'?
Elisabeth Moss will play the lead role, Offred, while the "Orange of the New Black" actress will play her college best friend, Moira. Moira is also a handmaid who is getting her training at the Red Center in Gilead. They are each other's connection to the world before the oppression and devastation that is happening in Gilead.
According to Mashable, the show is set to begin filming in the fall in Toronto. "The Handmaid's Tale" is slated for 2017 debut.
