"24: Legacy" is an upcoming series on the Fox network. It revolves around the plotline where the main character, Corey Hawkins, races against the clock.
At the San Diego Comic Con, Fox's "24: Legacy" panel had to answer many questions related to the series' original protagonist, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). It was asked if Jack Bauer will be a part of the show or not.
"There may be an intersection with those original characters down the line," executive producer Evan Katz teased. "Anything is possible," he added. The "24: Legacy" executive producer went on to tease the fans when he even told that probably Jack Bauer is still in Russia and might be having a very bad time in prison there. Jack Bauer's future was left in uncertainty at the end of "24: Live Another Day." It was aired in 2014.
"I think all of us want to finish that story. We all love that character," executive producer Manny Coto added. However, he also confirmed that right now they were not planning that. The plan of the team is to now focus on "24: Legacy." It is to be decided now how to present this particular story, reported Entertainment Weekly.
What is in store in '24: Legacy?'
"24: Legacy" is structured in the same format as the original series. However, the story focuses on a new cast of characters. The protagonist is a military hero Eric Carter (Hawkins). After he returns to US, he realizes that he has not left his troubles behind. He seeks CTU for help in saving his life and ultimately joins hands to stop a potential terror attack, reported Hollywood Reporter.
Kiefer Sutherland is an executive producer on the show.
How is the new protagonist in '24: Legacy' different from Jack Bauer?
Eric Carter has a military background which Jack Bauer did not have. He is a soldier and is often torn between the country and his family.
"He's a soldier and he's not used to dealing with ... the rules of engagement are different," said the actor. "He struggles with that internally in terms of protecting his home and his family but also his responsibility to his country."
The writers also revealed that the character was inspired by the soldiers who killed Osama bin Laden and are heroes but someone did not fit back into the society.
The producers emphasized that "24: Legacy" is an expansion of the original series and not just a reboot as rumored. That format will include split screens and onscreen clocks. Also, there will be a time jump sometime during the first season since there won't be 24 episodes to cover the entire 24 hours in a day.
"24: Legacy" will premiere on Fox in February.
