‘New Girl’ Season 6 Spoilers: Megan Fox’s Reagan Reuniting With Nick; Series Developer Says Jess-Nick Romance Is Inevitable

Megan Fox is indeed returning as Reagan on the sixth season of "New Girl." Season 5 of the Fox sitcom wrapped up with Nick (Jake Johnson) telling Jess (Zooey Deschanel) that he will spend time with Reagan in New Orleans for three months to help her settle in her new job.

Fox's Reagan, a pharmaceutical rep, will have a "major arc" in "New Girl" Season 6 "spanning up to eight episodes," according to Entertainment Weekly. The actress first appeared in the show's fifth season as replacement for Deschanel, who was on maternity leave at the time.

Reagan Won't Appear In 'New Girl' Until Midseason

Fans, however, would have to wait for a longer time to see Reagan on "New Girl" again. TVLine reported that Nick wouldn't be back at the Season 6 premiere with Reagan in tow.

Fox's character will not appear in the show until midseason. This is because the 30-year-old actress is about to give birth soon with her third child with husband Brian Austin Green.

Reagan rented a room in the loft during Jess' absence and was involved in a semi-relationship with Nick. In the Season 5 finale, which also featured Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece's (Hannah Simone) wedding, Jess and Sam (David Walton) decided that their romance won't work out. So Jess decided to tell Nick that she still has feelings for him, though that plan is thwarted when Reagan returned to town and told Nick that she's ready to explore their relationship further.

Nick And Jess' Romance To Be Revisited In 'New Girl?

It's been more than three years since "New Girl" explored a romance between Jess and Nick but given Season 5's last two episodes, the show seems to be returning to the two's past. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, series developer Elizabeth Meriwether said Jess and Nick's thing is "the heart of the show" and going back to their romance is inevitable.

As for why Jess and Nick's romance in "New Girl" Season 3 didn't work out, Meriwether said their characters "weren't quite grown enough to be in a relationship" yet at the time. Meriwether noted that David and Reagan are serving as the "catalysts" to Jess and Nick's relationship, but they're still planning to introduce "growth" and a "new dynamic" to add "some tension" to their romance.

"New Girl" Season 6 will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8:30/7:30c on Fox. The series was renewed for a sixth season last April.
