Creators of the hit drama series "Game of Thrones" have decided to end the show after eight seasons. Programming chief Casey Bloys confirmed the news during HBO's TCA executive session. Will there be a spin-off in the pipeline?
'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Is The Series Finale
Bloys said that it was a decision by "The Game of Thrones" creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to only have eight seasons for their flagship series. "I think David Benioff and D.B. have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do," Bloys said, as reported by Deadline. "If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons, but we want to take their lead with what they can do and what the best version of the show is."
Bloys also answered the speculations about a "Game of Thrones" spin-off, saying that they have talked about it, but there are concrete plans yet. And while he is not opposed to the idea, he explained that its creative side would really have to make sense.
According to Gizmodo, a spokesperson for HBO said in a comment to a Buzzfeed article that Bloys did not say that "Game of Thrones" Season 8 is definitely the end of the series. HBO has been reached out for a clarification.
'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Release Date
'Game of Thrones' Season 7 is expected to release next year later than the usual April premiere because of the delay in production. The production has decided to move the launch in summer 2017 as they are seeking to film in colder weather for creative reasons. Deadline reported that "Game of Thrones" is set to film in Northern Ireland, Spain, and Iceland.
"Game of Thrones" Season 7 will consist of seven episodes. For "Game of Thrones" Season 8, the number of episodes is yet definite, but according to rumors, there will only be six.
It's going to be a long wait for "Game of Thrones" fans, but in the meantime, speculations as to what will happen in the next season are plenty on the internet, including who's going to die first in Season 7.
