There will be plenty of changes to "iZombie" Season 3, but perhaps viewers might not be counting on a shortened number of episodes for the upcoming season. According to executive producer Rob Thomas, there are only 13 episodes this time. However, it shouldn't be a cause for worry and concern about the show's status. The shortened episodes are actually a lot better for the show in terms of story development.
'iZombie' Season 3 Only 13 Episodes
Rob Thomas revealed that "iZombie" Season 3 will only have 13 episodes in an exclusive interview with Los Angeles Times. "[It] is much easier to plan when they sort of give you a number," he said. During the first season of "iZombie" the show was also given 13 episodes. But when the producers and writers were asked to expand this to 19 episodes in the second season, that's when they were a bit more challenged.
"We sort of jammed nine episodes worth of story into our final six last year," he added, saying a set of 13 episodes will make it easier for the writers to plan out the show. "It should feel like a new 'iZombie' story," Rob Thomas teased about "iZombie" Season 3.
'iZombie' Season 3 No Zombie Cure
Meanwhile, the upcoming season will see Ravi proceed on working on a cure for the zombie virus and this will be included in the plot development. However, none of Ravi's experiments will pan out for "iZombie" Season 3. There will be no cure in sight, for as long as the show is on the air.
The cast of "iZombie" confirmed this during the recent Comic Con panel. The reason Ravi's medical developments will fail is because it will eventually spell doom for the series. If Ravi's cure works, then there will be no more zombies to chase after, which means there will be no more stories to tell. Instead, viewers should expect Ravi to have "little success and more devastating side effects" with his quest for developing the cure, per Comic Book Resources.
"iZombie" Season 3 is expected to be on The CW's schedule for the mid-season. The network has yet to announce a confirmed premiere date, so stay tuned!
