Bethesda Explains Why It Dropped 'Prey 2'; ‘Prey’ Original Reboot In The Works?

In E3 2016, during gaming developer Bethesda's showcase, a trailer was revealed for a brand new "Prey" game. Though fans were delighted to have another "Prey" game coming out soon, many were wondering about the "Prey 2" game that never came to be.

"Prey 2", the second chapter in the "Prey" series, was reportedly canceled after being in development hell over the last few years. The alien-themed first person shooter was set to be released in 2016, but the plug was eventually pulled due to development disputes. The news was confirmed by Pete Hines, Vice President of Bethesda.

The original sequel for "Prey", "Prey 2" was initially revealed in a trailer from the 2011 E3, featuring a U.S. Marshall turned bounty hunter named Killian Samuels as the main character. The game was set in a futuristic city inhabited by different species of aliens and humans alike. In an interview with CNET, Pete Hines says that "Prey 2" wasn't shaping up to be what they wanted, saying "It wasn't up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it. It's no longer in development."

Bethesda then broke ties with "Prey 2's" original development team, Human Head Studios, saying that both camps were no longer seeing eye to eye and that they both had different visions for the outcome of "Prey 2." Hines spoke with Gamespot about the falling out of their partnership.

"I want those guys to have every success and to not have to keep bringing up this thing," Hines said. "Games get canceled. It happens. Marriages go bad. It happens."

Now under Arkane Studios, the next installment of the "Prey" franchise will no longer be a sequel. Instead, the new title will be a reboot to the 2006 "Prey" original. "Prey (2017)" will now be a sci-fi psychological thriller, set in 2032 with the game's main protagonist, Morgan Yu, who is put under morally questionable experiments, to improve the human race, according to Game Rant.

The brand new "Prey" reboot will be released in 2017 and will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
