San Antonio Spurs is building their second big three for the forthcoming NBA season. The team used to have Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker for their big three but lost Duncan to retirement. Soon after, Ginobili and Parker will also hang their jerseys, which leaves Spurs no choice but to for a younger generation of their big three.
Parent Herald previously reported that Spurs is eyeing the Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry to complete their next big three alongside Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge. However, other sources claimed that it would be unlikely as Curry has no plans in leaving GSW.
With Stephen Curry unlikely to join Spurs big three, the team has slowly moved on and is considering other players. According to Christian Today, other potential candidates in completing Spurs big three are Thomas Robinson and Blake Griffin.
Per the report, Brooklyn Nets might throw their power forward, Thomas Robinson in the free agency together with the other veterans Paul Gasol and Matt Bonner to improve his game. Thus, Spurs have high chances of signing him in the next NBA season.
Meanwhile, other sources claimed that aside from Stephen Curry and Thomas Robinson, Spurs' other option is Blake Griffin. Griffin is another favorite in the NBA trade rumors, who is often linked to several other NBA teams.
Blake Griffin is currently Clippers power forward but he will be joining the 2017 NBA free agency market. The report suggests that adding Griffin in Spurs' roster will give the team huge chances of getting their next NBA title.
However, Spurs may also struggle in acquiring Blake Griffin as Clippers head coach Doc Rivers has no plans of letting Griffin walk away in their team. Per Basketball Real GM, Rivers hopes that Griffin would end his NBA career with them. Rivers added that Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are staying and would want to play for the LA Clippers forever.
Will Spurs ever form their next big three if it is impossible to acquire Stephen Curry and Blake Griffin? Will the team successfully sign Thomas Robinson? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
