"Arrow" and "Teen Wolf" actor Colton Haynes has been carrying the load of his father's death since he was 14. When he told family members and friends that he's gay, it didn't turn out well. Weeks after his confession, his dad committed suicide and his family blamed him for this. For years, he kept his gender identity as a secret because of what supposedly happened.
Colton Haynes opened up to Out about this sad time in his life. Now, at 28, and having confirmed he's gay in public, he can freely talk about everything.
He told the magazine that no one actually knows the truth about why his dad took his life and he was not really close to him and his side of the family, per Daily Mail. Hiding his sexuality was also the advice he got when he started becoming an actor at 17, for fear that he won't be able to succeed in his chosen career.
Colton Haynes revealed his sexuality in May in an Entertainment Weekly exclusive. Apart from his fears, he also admitted that it took him a long time to come out in public because he just wasn't ready. Over the years, there had been wild speculations about his being gay, which has sent the actor to recover from anxiety in rehab facilities. Finally, he was exhausted from hiding the truth and decided it was time to tell the world.
Since his public confession, Colton Haynes admits he's a lot happier. He's also more inspired to work and has launched a lifestyle site in July, which Out says is doing brisk sales. As for his work on television, the actor will soon be seen in "Scream Queens" Season 2 this fall. This will be his first acting gig since coming out in public. It looks like Colton Haynes is slowly overcoming the burden of his father's death and is coming into his own as a person.
