While "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 surprised its fans by ending the series, those who are really loyal to the show just won't give up easily. Unlike other shows, the abrupt cancellation of "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 made left to wonder, what went wrong. CBS defended its decision by saying that there are no more stories to tell for Vanessa Ives.
However, fans still want to see more stories about "Penny Dreadful" and Season 4 would be a good medium for that. Gary Levine, however, Showtime programming president revealed that writer John Logan has already made up its mind even before "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 about the death of Vanessa.
Showtime CEO David Nevins, on the other hand, disagree with John Logan and that he was hoping for a "Penny Dreadful" Season 4. He was even convincing John Logan to change his mind up to the last minute of the final episodes.
Logan though has already made up his mind and has always envisioned "Penny Dreadful" just as a three-season arc. Although the actors themselves were quite shock about the end of "Penny Dreadful," they knew that they eventually had to say goodbye.
But fans are still hoping that "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 would just continue just to give the rest of its characters a proper ending. With David Nevins seeing a good hope for "Penny Dreadful" there might be a slight chance.
The problem though is that writer John Logan won't write anymore "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 episodes. Nevins also agrees that if they place another writer for "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 that it would lose its authenticity.
Billie Piper who was one of the stars of "Penny Dreadful" also explained the shock they felt when the show suddenly ended. "So they sort of won in every way," Piper said. "It was just very sudden."
Fans only hope is for writer John Logan to finally change his mind and have a "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 even without Vanessa. Showtime CEO David Nevins need to convince Logan even harder to make this possible.
