After the overnight success of the first season, it is inevitable for fans to start clamoring for a "Stranger Things" season 2 to happen. Because of this Netflix has reportedly already greenlit (though not officially) the production of "Stranger Things" season 2. In fact, the Duffer Brothers, who serve as creators and showrunners, are already laying out the major plot points for the next season.
It has also been revealed that "Stranger Things" season 2 will still feature the same cast members from the original as the Duffer Brothers want to copy the same cast model "Harry Potter" adopted, Entertainment Weekly reported. "The dream is a Harry Potter situation," Matt Duffer said. "I love watching kids growing up on camera. So the idea seeing where these kids and these characters are one year later is cool to me."
The media's comparisons between "Harry Potter" and "Stranger Things" season 2 are not entirely implausible as the two franchises both have relatively young leads. "Stranger Things" season 2's pool of talented young cast members, which includes Noel Schanpp, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton, is covered intensively by the media the same way Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were in the 200s.
In other news about "Stranger Things" season 2, the '80s inspired science fiction show has been announced as the third most-watched original scripted series on Netflix, the Independent UK reported. It has beaten other popular shows in Netflix's stable like the Tina Fey-produced comedy "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," political thriller "House of Cards," and neo-noir superhero show "Marvel's Jessica Jones." The solid numbers posted by the show allows Netflix and the producers to make an even stronger case for the streaming service to produce and develop "Stranger Things" season 2.
"Stranger Things" season 2 is expected to start being available for stream starting late 2017. "Stranger Things" season 2 is said to be already in pre-production and will start shooting later this fall to fit its "darker" vision.
