Fans are definitely getting more excited about the upcoming premiere of "Empire" season 3 after FOX released a promotional clip for the upcoming season. In addition, new details about the possible storylines, recurring cast and guest stars are also revealed.
Following the mind-blowing and cliffhanging season 2 finale, more intense turn of events is expected in "Empire" season 3. According to CarterMatt, the upcoming season will concentrate more on the Lyon family and its matriarch, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson).
In addition, there were also rumors about the introduction of Cookie's lover in "Empire" season 3 with guest star Tay Diggs. As Cookie finally moved on from the heartaches she experienced when Lucious (Terrence Howard) decided to marry Anika (Grace Gealey) in the previous season, showrunner Ilene Chaiken hinted that Cookie will start her life anew and with the possibility of meeting Angelo Dubois as her love interest, TVLine noted.
There were also rumors circulating the possibility of a reconciliation between feuding exes Cookie and Lucious in "Empire" season 3. As a matter of fact, Henson, Chaiken and executive producer Sanaa Hamri teased at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Aug. 8 that Lucious may not allow Cookie to move on, stressing that the storylines will focus back on the Lyon family.
"We learned that the stories that work best and that we love telling most are about the family, and that always will be our focus," Chaiken said, as per Variety. "No matter what's going on at Empire, it's always about the family."
As for the cliffhanging conclusion in the previous season, Chaiken said that the biggest question on who will die between Anika and Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) will be answered in a "fabulous and heart-stopping way" in "Empire" season 3. However, Chaiken also emphasized that killing off characters is not the series' "go-to move."
Meanwhile, "Empire" season 3 will also feature an interesting ensemble of guest stars. TV Cheat Sheet revealed that Mariah Carey, Taye Diggs, Birdman, French Montana and Sierra McClain will bring some interesting twists in the upcoming season of the hit FOX series.
In other "Empire" season 3-related news, Chaiken has admitted the possibility of a spinoff of the series, saying it has been discussed, The Hollywood Reporter learned. Chaiken also added that the potential spinoff may focus more on the characters of Lucious and Cookie.
