One of the biggest names in football and the face of Manchester United for the past decade, Wayne Rooney, has recently been seeing a bit of decline in his game, Rooney may start to look for success somewhere else. That could very well be in the United States' Major League Soccer.
While many consider Wayne Rooney as one of England's biggest football stars, his efforts on the football pitch have not been translating to major cup titles as of late. With Manchester United falling short of the Premier League trophy in the past few seasons, Rooney's stay in the realm of European football could be in question.
Merritt Paulson, the owner of Major League Soccer champions, the Portland Timbers, has recently told The Mirror, that numerous American teams, including the Timbers, have been keeping an eye on the ageing English football star, saying that big MLS teams would pay a lot of money for Rooney if he does decide to leave Manchester United. Paulson though admits that Rooney is still one of Europe's finest, despite being a bit past his prime.
With many big names from European football making transfers overseas after passing their prime, like David Beckham's move to the LA Galaxy in 2007 after spending a decade of his career in Europe, it wouldn't come as a surprise for Wayne Rooney to cap off his career in a run for an American title. As former Premier League mates Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole already playing on US soil, Rooney could very well be on his way.
Manchester United still has Rooney under contract until 2019, with "The Wonder Boy" earning £300,000 while playing at Old Trafford, according to the Daily Mail, and now coupled with football stars Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimović, perhaps this season could be the turnaround the "Red Devils" have been anxiously hoping for.
