Team Brazil broke no sweat in their route to the finals of the 2016 Olympics for men's football, where they effortlessly took care of their matches since the beginning of the group stages. The Brazilian squad will look to win their first Olympic gold medal as they face rival country Germany in the final.
The Brazilian team led by football superstar Neymar Jr., conceded no goals in their entire Olympic campaign, with only two draws in their impressive record. In the semifinal match against Honduras, Brazil thrashed the competition and ended the game with a 6-0 scoreline. Neymar also scored the fastest goal in Olympic history with his opening effort, which only took him 15 seconds, in a report from the Daily Mail.
Brazil head coach Rogerio Micale praised the young striker's efforts, saying "Neymar is a monster. He has the gift of playing football, he delights everyone with his talent," according to ABC. Neymar also leads the Brazilian team in goals scored in the Olympic tournament with 4.
Brazil will also have another shot at Germany, after being brutally beaten in the 2014 FIFA world cup, where the Germans humiliated the South American club in a 7-1 contest. Brazil looks to level their record in an international stage.
For the German squad, they do not have their usual superstars with them heading into the final as key players Mario Gotze, Mesut Ozil, Bastian Schweisteiger and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer all opted out of the 2016 Olympics. This certainly makes the German side the underdogs against a stacked team Brazil.
Team Brazil, who is playing for their home crowd are determined to bring home their first ever Olympic gold medal after falling short in the 2012 London Olympics, where they fell to Mexico in a 2-1 loss, landing them in second place and the silver medal.
Brazil and Germany are set to face off on August 21 in the iconic Maracana stadium.
